Respect for the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources are an integral part of the corporate social responsibility policy which underpins Uralkalis strategy. The Company's policy covers all areas of environmental protection:


- optimisation of production: we aim to optimise our production in order to maximise the efficiency of use of natural resources;

- minimising the impact on the environment: while our production uses advanced treatment systems, we are looking not only for new ways of waste disposal, but also for the possibility of theirrecycling;

- private initiatives: we are engaged in volunteer environmental campaigns to clear our cities and forests of household waste.


Uralkali focuses onmeasures tominimise the negative impact ofits activities onthe environment. Responsibility for preservation ofthe environment isanintegral part ofdoing business.

The Company fully adheres tothe requirements ofenvironmental legislation, uses natural resources responsibly, and constantly introduces new environmental protection measures.

The highest level ofproduction organisation and the use ofadvanced technologies enable Uralkali tosuccessfully achieve its sustainable development goals. These include the efficient use ofnon-renewable resources and adherence tothe highest environmental protection standards, aimed atminimising the impact ofthe Companys business onthe environment.

Sustainability ofecosystems, biodiversity and ahealthy environment are vital conditions for the wellbeing offuture generations.

  • The Company invested RUB 3,987 million in environmental protection in 2018
  • In 2018, the actual amount of generated electricity decreased by 5% compared to 2017 and totalled 324.85 million kWh
  • In 2018, the total water intake for industrial needs and utility services at Uralkali in Russia increased by 0.9% to 18.94 million m3 from 18.77 million m3 in 2017.
  • In 2018, the volume of associated gas used by Uralkali and its subsidiaries and affiliates in Russia totalled 149.42 thousand tonnes of oil equivalent
  • The Companys enterprises produced 32.38 million tonnes of waste in 2018. More than 99% of it was industrial waste of hazard class V (halite waste and clay-salt slurries). In 2018, the Company reached a 8% growth of halite waste and clay-salt slurries compared to 2017 and a 75% growth compared to 2013. The increase in waste utilisation was due to the increase in backfilling the mined-out areas of the mine
  • Waste tonnage at in-house facilities has been declining over the recent years. By the end of 2018, the decrease amounted to 10%

Health, safety and environment are key priorities for us and serve as a framework for every action and decision we make, irrespective of the type of activity.

We fully realise that no achievement or economic benefit may justify death of people or damage to human health and the environment of our planet. Each and every employee of OJSC Uralkali has the right to be provided with safe and comfortable conditions of labour. With that, the Company expects that every employee will strictly abide by safety regulations and will demonstrate responsible attitude towards own and fellow colleagues life and health.
